Cartoon Black History: Swiper The Fox

August 11, 2011

NEWS FLASH: Stealing is wrong. Being wrong doesn’t mean it is unjustified. This black man understood that, every once in a blue moon, revolution must be taken.

Swiper “The Fawkes” (not “The Fox” like most thought, though it still worked because he was sly) was one of the greatest burglars of all time. To reach that goal, he intently studied the legends of Guy Fawkes and Robin Hood to be an amalgam of the two. Therefore becoming the perfect thug.

Swiper incorporated Fawkes’ planning and anarchy with Hood’s cunning and stealth. He used what he learned to steal the biggest, spherical ruby in the world from the Louvre in Paris.

After that successful heist, The Fawkes went to read up on new tactics for his next job. To his chagrin, he stumbled upon a true injustice. The authorities knew of Swiper’s influences. So they burned every book they believed could cause adverse behavior.

As far as Swiper was concerned, stealing was bad, but robbing people of knowledge was a cardinal sin. In retaliation, he surrounded the Capitol building with TNT in the darkness of night. Detonator in hand, Swiper explained his plot to blow up the building if the burnings continued on a hijacked TV station.

Though surrounded, Swiper wouldn’t budge until he got a signed letter stating the book burning would cease. His demand was met. But he was so angry about possibly meeting the same fate as Guy Fawkes that he was still ready to blow up the building. But a simple phone call and simpler request from a young girl tamed his rage.

Dora was known to rally against the machine herself as Swiper’s protege. But she didn’t want him to get hurt. When he answered, her eyes filled with tears as she said, “Swiper, no swiping.” With that, The Fawkes dropped the detonator and raised his hands in surrender.

Swiper was put away forever. But his bravery ensured children everywhere would not be castrated by a lack of information. His bold act exposed the government as the opponents of knowing they were always charged with being. No book was ever burned again and a new legend was born that day. His name is Swiper “The Fawkes”. And he is a black man.

    Hahaha…I love this.

P.S. Your birthday is almost Guy Fawkes’ Day (but you probably knew that). I’m pretty sure that if your birthday is in the same week as Guy Fawkes’ Day, it means that you’re predestined to rebel against injustice (much like Swiper) and are entitled to blow up buildings, or at least to try to.

I think it’s expected of me. Be that as it may, I don’t think I’m patriotically allowed to type it. So, no, I have no idea what you mean. *WINK*
